AFC Championship: New England Patriots @ Denver Broncos Halftime Report

Denver’s defense dominated much of the first half against New England, repeatedly forcing punts and limiting the Patriots’ offensive production, but the Broncos were unable to convert that control into a lead. Despite stalling the Patriots on five of their first six possessions, Denver entered halftime tied 7–7, leaving missed opportunities on the scoreboard.

Late in the second quarter, the Broncos took over near midfield after another Patriots punt and moved into long field-goal range on two completions by Jarrett Stidham. Wil Lutz’s 54-yard attempt missed wide right, and New England was able to attempt a desperation 63-yard field goal as time expired, though Andy Borregales’ kick fell well short, preserving the tie at halftime.

New England’s lone touchdown came off a short field after Stidham fumbled while attempting to throw the ball away. The Patriots capitalized quickly, with Drake Maye scoring on a six-yard run two plays later. Earlier, Denver also came away empty-handed after electing to throw on a fourth-and-1 at the Patriots’ 14-yard line rather than taking a chance to extend the lead, resulting in an incompletion under pressure.

The Patriots will receive the opening kickoff of the second half, but after managing just 72 total yards and four first downs in the opening two quarters, they will need a more effective offensive approach to seize control on the road.
