Patriots' Head Coach Mike Vrabel Named PFWA Coach Of The Year

Mike Vrabel’s first season as head coach of the New England Patriots has been a resounding success. After taking over in January following a disastrous 2024 campaign that ended Jerod Mayo’s brief tenure, Vrabel quickly transformed the team. His efforts earned him the Pro Football Writers Association’s Coach of the Year award, and he is also a finalist for the AP Coach of the Year.

Under Vrabel’s leadership, the Patriots rebounded dramatically, finishing the 2025 season 14–3 and capturing their first AFC East title since 2019. The team developed a clear identity, with strong performances from key players such as Stefon Diggs, TreVeyon Henderson, and MVP finalist quarterback Drake Maye. Players have credited Vrabel with immediately changing the culture and demanding accountability, which led to widespread buy-in throughout the roster.

After years of instability at quarterback in the post–Tom Brady era, New England now appears to have both a franchise quarterback in Maye and a proven leader in Vrabel. The Patriots’ resurgence has set the stage for their biggest challenge yet, as they travel to Denver to face the Broncos in the AFC Championship Game.
