Patriots: QB Drake Maye and PR Marcus Jones Named Second-Team All-Pros By the Associated Press

Drake Maye earned the first major accolade of his NFL career by being named a second-team All-Pro by the Associated Press, marking a significant milestone for both the quarterback and the Patriots. He becomes the first Patriots offensive player to receive All-Pro recognition since Joe Thuney in 2019. Cornerback Marcus Jones also received second-team honors as a punt returner, highlighting New England’s individual excellence across multiple units.

Despite finishing behind Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford in first-team All-Pro voting, Maye’s season placed him firmly in the NFL’s elite. Historical precedent shows that MVP and first-team All-Pro honors do not always align, leaving open the possibility for future individual awards. Maye’s performance was instrumental in leading the Patriots to a 14–3 record, their first division title since 2019, and a playoff berth, representing a 10-win improvement from the prior season under new head coach Mike Vrabel.

Statistically, Maye delivered one of the most efficient quarterback seasons in recent league history. He threw for 4,394 yards and 31 touchdowns, added 450 rushing yards and four scores, and led the NFL in numerous advanced metrics, including completion percentage, yards per attempt, passer rating, QBR, and EPA per drop-back. His deep passing efficiency and performance under pressure ranked among the best of the Next Gen Stats era, underscoring his impact beyond traditional box-score production.

Marcus Jones matched Maye’s recognition with an exceptional year as a punt returner, tying for the league lead with two return touchdowns and averaging 17.3 yards per return. Although he narrowly missed first-team honors, Jones remains the NFL’s all-time career leader in punt return average, further cementing his value as a dynamic special teams weapon.

While the individual honors are notable, the Patriots’ focus now shifts to the postseason. New England will host the Los Angeles Chargers in a Sunday night Wild Card matchup, with team success taking priority over personal accolades as the playoffs begin.
