Remembering Bobby Grier

Remembering Bobby Grier

The Pats Corner joins the wider football community in remembering Bobby Grier and offering our condolences to Bobby's family. Grier made history in 1956 becoming the first player of color to compete in the Sugar Bowl, a moment that drove his impact beyond the game of football.

Grier was a member of the Patriots as an offensive backfield coach in 1981, 1985, and 1986-1992 (held the position of running game coordinator also).  Grier also held the position as scout for the club from 1982-1985, was Patriots director of pro scouting from 1993-1995, before being promoted to director of player personnel from 1995-1997, and held the position of VP of player personnel from 1997-2000. A career with the Patriots spanning nearly 20 years.

Grier embodied the traits of dignity, leadership, and resilience, and paved the way for future generations of black coaches and executives to follow his legacy. Today, we reflect on the legacy of Bobby Grier. We honor bobby for his role in football but also his role in shaping a more inclusive America. Rest in Peace Bobby Grier.
