Volunteers at the Veterans Council in Beverly, Massachusetts, organized a birthday card drive to celebrate the 105th birthday of Louis Tanzer, a World War II Marine Corps veteran. Among the many cards he received was an oversized, autographed card from the New England Patriots, signed by head coach Mike Vrabel, Hall of Famer Andre Tippett, and the entire team roster. Tanzer described the gesture as a meaningful and unexpected surprise that deeply touched him.
The celebrations continued after his Dec. 26 birthday party when Tanzer received a video call from Patriots chairman and CEO Robert Kraft. During the call, Kraft praised Tanzer’s military service and expressed admiration for him, bonding over their shared Patriots fandom and Jewish faith. Born in 1920, Tanzer served in the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing in the Pacific Theater, including deployments to the Ellice and Marshall Islands, and aboard the USS Altamaha. Kraft also surprised him with a customized Patriots No. 105 jersey bearing his name.
Tanzer and his family were thrilled by the recognition, and he plans to have the jersey framed after the season. His daughter noted how much he has enjoyed watching the Patriots’ strong 2025 comeback and their return to the AFC Championship. Kraft closed the call by expressing pride in Tanzer and hinting that a potential Super Bowl victory could be one more special birthday gift in an already unforgettable celebration.
