Stefon Diggs: From ACL Injury To Super Bowl Berth

Stefon Diggs was overcome with emotion after New England’s narrow 10–7 AFC Championship win over the Denver Broncos, standing in the snow and crying as he reflected on his journey to finally reaching Super Bowl LX. The moment marked a full-circle turnaround from five years earlier, when he went viral for watching the Chiefs celebrate an AFC title after defeating his team. Now 32 and coming off a serious ACL injury last season, Diggs described the year as one of the most difficult of his career, saying the physical and mental grind, along with doubts from critics who labeled him “washed”, made the victory especially meaningful. He credited his teammates, coaching staff, and faith for helping him persevere and said the opportunity New England gave him made all the hard work worthwhile.
In postgame interviews, Diggs emphasized how much it meant to prove to himself that he still belongs at a high level. He said the Patriots took a chance on him during his recovery and that he was determined to reward that trust. Though his individual stat line in the championship game was modest, five catches for 17 yards, he focused on the team accomplishment and the resilience required to get there. He repeatedly highlighted the toughness of the season and expressed gratitude for being part of a group he believes in deeply.
Diggs also passionately praised quarterback Drake Maye, calling him a “soldier” and an “MVP” for battling through harsh weather and delivering key plays despite not having his sharpest passing performance. Maye contributed heavily with his legs, rushing for 65 yards and securing a crucial game-sealing first down. Diggs said he is fully committed to supporting Maye and giving maximum effort every play. Looking ahead to the Super Bowl matchup against Seattle, Diggs said he wants to savor the moment but made clear the team’s mission isn’t finished yet, “We’ve got one more.”
