The Patriots Are Perennial Record Breakers And They Broke Another Record This Season

The New England Patriots achieved a rare milestone with their AFC Championship Game victory in Denver, completing a perfect 9–0 record in road games this season. No team in NFL history had previously gone unbeaten across at least nine road contests in a single season, including the postseason. The Patriots went 8–0 away from home during the regular season and then added a ninth road win with their playoff victory over the Broncos, making their accomplishment unprecedented in terms of sustained road dominance.

The significance of the achievement was underscored in the locker room after the win, when team owner Robert Kraft presented head coach Mike Vrabel with a game ball. Kraft highlighted the historical context of the feat, emphasizing that no previous NFL team had managed to win nine road games without suffering a single road loss. The recognition reflected not only the importance of the championship victory itself, but also the broader narrative of the team’s ability to perform consistently in hostile environments throughout the year.

While a few teams in NFL history have reached or even exceeded nine road victories in a season, none had done so without also losing on the road. The 2007 New York Giants won 10 road games, and both the 2020 Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the 2005 Pittsburgh Steelers recorded nine road wins. However, each of those teams suffered road losses along the way. The Patriots’ season stands apart because they combined volume and perfection, becoming the first team to play at least nine road games and win every one of them, reinforcing the rarity and historical weight of the accomplishment.
