Wrapping up the Browns - the Pats continue to win football games

The Pats continued their unbeaten run with a 32-13 defeat of the Cleveland Browns, improving to 6-2 on the year and bringing their home record to .500. The Pats struggled in the first half but exploded in the third quarter with 21 points to seal their path to victory.

Drake Maye led the team with another impressive performance - going 18 for 24 and passing for 282 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT, and ran for 50 yards in addition to his passing stats. What was incredibly impressive was that after the half, he went 8 for 8 and threw his three TDs. An explosion of offensive competence that we haven't seen since the Brady days. The opening drive of the second half was a refreshing drive for 77 yards that included trick plays. Will Campbell struggled against Myles Garrett but earned Garrett's praise after the game. Campbell will learn from what was a tough day that saw Drake Maye sacked 5 times. Another rookie, who had his best day in a Pats uniform so far was TreVeyon Henderson, rushed 7 times for 68 yards but he did fumble the ball in the red zone late on. Although, I'll give him a break on that one. He must do better but it's pretty difficult to hold on to the football when your opponent's crown of their helmet hits the ball. Star Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs scored his first TD for the club, Mack Hollins led the receiving corps with 89 yards, Kayshon Boutte continued his deep threat trend with a 39 yard TD, and Pop Douglas continued to be productive with a 44 yard reception. We have a number of guys producing in the receiver corps.

The defense started poorly, letting up a 70-yard TD, but quickly got its act together and nullified Cleveland for most of the rest of the game. The defense effectively stopped the run and the secondary had a very good day considering it is one of our weaker units. Christian Barmore sat for the first quarter which Vrabel cited an internal discipline reasoning that was dealt with. The defense was impressive after the initial TD drive, Cleveland never looked like threatening our goal line. Turnovers from Robert Spillane and Jaylinn Hawkins stunted the Browns ability to get any rhythm going.

Special teams has been consistent throughout the year and that continued. Rookie kicker Andy Borregales was flawless kicking 3 FGs and 3 PATs, although punter Bryce Baringer miss kicked a punt that went for a mere 15-yards.
