Wrapping up the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Share
The Pats extended their winning streak to seven games with a 28-23 road win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite missing key players (WR Kayshon Boutte, RB Rhamondre Stevenson), the Patriots overcame arguably their toughest opponent so far.
A day for rookies
RB TreVeyon Henderson and WR Kyle Williams each scored 50+ yard touchdowns, showcasing explosive speed and playmaking, a major boost for the Patriots’ offense
Drake Maye
Maye threw for 270 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception, impressing with deep throws under pressure and receiving MVP chants from traveling fans. He did have a costly red zone interception late but continued to display resilience and big-play ability.
Defensive Ups and Downs
The defense struggled on the first and last Bucs drives, allowing touchdowns, but tightened up later on. Learning from wins is emphasized as the team looks to improve red zone and opening drive defense.
Competent WR room
Despite injuries, the Patriots’ receiving corps stepped up, with Mack Hollins and Stefon Diggs making important plays, and Williams capitalizing on increased opportunities.
Gonzo
Gonzalez shadowed Bucs rookie Emeka Egbuka effectively, limiting him in man coverage and highlighting his growing shutdown ability.
More Running Back Injuries:
The Pats lost Terrell Jennings to a knee injury, testing their RB depth, but Henderson’s big day offset the concern for now.
OL improvements
The offensive line held up well against a tough Bucs front, especially rookies Will Campbell and Jared Wilson, although Vita Vea posed challenges inside.
Special Teams hit and miss
Kicker Andy Borregales was reliable, but there were miscues on punts and returns. The unit avoided major mistakes but has room for improvement.
Overall, the Pats’ resilience, rookie contributions, and clutch defense kept their momentum going, giving them a two-game divisional lead and plenty of positives as they move forward.
